Why the Mainstream Media Hates this 23-Year-Old

A modern David and Goliath story captured the headlines over the holidays, and the mainstream media is not happy about it.
Governor Tim Walz, infamous running mate of Kamala Harris, nixed his own reelection campaign in Minnesota because of a kid with a keen camera. Nick Shirley, 23-year-old YouTuber, achieved overnight fame for his video expose on daycare fraud among the Somali community in Minnesota. In just over a week, the video hit 138 million views on X.
Shirley traveled from center to center investigating the federal and state funding that is poured into these institutions to the tune of millions of dollars a year.

As the investigation continued, it became increasingly clear that these institutions were not interested in transparency. From slammed doors to blackened windows, Shirley was met with secrecy and aggression. At one point, Solami community members even begin tailing him in their cars as he drives to a new location.
When Shirley first released his video the day after Christmas, it was ignored by the mainstream media. When the media finally did report on his findings, it was to slap a MAGA label on him in order to discredit his work.
This wailing whine from the dying establishment media is to be expected.
The mainstream media hates Shirley and here’s why:
Nick Shirley is independent. He reminds them of the uncomfortable truth that anyone with an iPhone and some courage can take over the narrative they are so used to controlling.
Nick Shirley is young. Yet somehow, he was able to slip through the slimy fingers of liberalism so prevalent in the school systems and online spaces.
Nick Shirley is truthful. He is gathering data and investigating it in the real world. As one YouTube commenter correctly noted, “This is what journalists used to do 20 years ago.”
Nick Shirley is inspirational. Already, The New Yorker is warning about copycat journalists who are looking into fraud in their own communities and hoping to expose it.

Again and again, the establishment media wants you to disbelieve your lying eyes. Nick Shirley wouldn’t listen to them, and neither should you.
This expose tells a story beyond the corruption taking place in Minnesota. It tells again of the death of establishment blind trust. It tells how one man can reach the ear of the President with just his camera and the internet.
It tells us the story of giant hunting—and it reminds us that sometimes all it takes is one well-flung stone.
