What a Weekend at Texas A&M Taught Us About Gen Z.
God • Family • Country
Tailgate Stop #2 was full of reasons to believe in Gen Z.
Spend enough time online, and it’s easy to get a negative picture of Gen Z. We’re distracted, divided, glued to our phones, and supposedly uninterested in anything bigger than ourselves. But spending time at Texas A&M for TYR’s tailgate tour stop gave us a different perspective.
There’s something encouraging about being on a campus where people care so deeply about belonging to something. At A&M, the school pride and traditions reflect a culture that students intentionally carry forward. That kind of shared identity matters, especially when the majority of life today can feel disconnected.
Football brings people together, but the reason this stop felt meaningful went beyond the game. It was seeing young people take pride in their community and recognizing how much potential exists in our generation. There’s plenty of energy here, but there’s also a desire to be part of something significant.
Of course, that doesn’t mean every student has everything figured out. Most of us are still deciding what we believe, what matters to us, and what kind of people we want to become. But that process deserves encouragement. We need opportunities to take responsibility, build friendships, and discover that we have something valuable to contribute.
For TYR, this stop was a reminder to pay attention to what’s happening beyond the headlines. It’s easy to talk about young people as a problem to solve. It takes more effort to show up, spend time with them, and recognize the good that’s already there.
We left A&M feeling hopeful about Gen Z. The pride, connection, and sense of possibility we saw on campus was inspiring to say the least. Our generation has plenty of challenges ahead, but there are also young people ready to step up and face them. This stop gave us more reason to believe in our generation.
Thanks for everything, A&M. Next stop: Indiana!
