Finding Peace in Christ in an Anxious Generation
The Peace We're Missing
“Peace isn't something we have to create on our own. Jesus Christ offers it freely.”
What if the reason so many people feel anxious isn't because life is harder, but because we've been looking for peace in all the wrong places?
Whether we're scrolling through social media, worrying about the future, or trying to meet impossible expectations, our generation is exhausted. We're constantly connected, yet many of us have never felt more alone.
I don't think our generation has an achievement problem.
I think we have a peace problem.
The good news is that peace isn't something we have to create on our own. Jesus Christ offers it freely.
One of my favorite invitations in all of scripture comes from Matthew 11:28, where Jesus says, "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Notice what Jesus doesn't say. He doesn't tell us to figure everything out first or clean up our lives before coming to Him. He simply says, "Come unto me."
That invitation is just as relevant today as it was two thousand years ago.
Following Christ doesn't make life easier. It changes who we lean on when life gets hard. There will still be disappointment, loss, and days when life feels overwhelming. The difference is that we don't have to face those moments alone. We can trust a Savior who understands exactly what we're carrying because He has already carried more than we ever could.
President Russell M. Nelson once said, "The joy we feel has little to do with the circumstances of our lives and everything to do with the focus of our lives." I think that's something our generation desperately needs to hear. We spend so much time chasing approval and trying to control tomorrow that we lose sight of the One who never changes.
The world tells us that if we can just fix our circumstances, we'll finally find peace. Christ teaches something entirely different. He offers a peace that isn't dependent on our circumstances, achievements, or the opinions of others. When our lives are centered on Him, peace isn't found in finally having everything figured out. It's found in trusting the One who already does.
It's easy to think that if one more thing in our lives went right, we'd finally have peace. But no paycheck, relationship, or social media following can give us what only Christ can. Those things come and go. Christ doesn't.
Our generation doesn't need another influencer, another productivity hack, or another viral trend. We don't need louder voices. We need lasting truth. We need hope that isn't shaken by bad news, purpose that isn't based on success, peace that isn't dependent on our circumstances, courage to stand for truth when it's unpopular, and a Savior who never changes.
I believe that's exactly what Christ offers.
“In a restless world, Christ's invitation remains the same: "Come unto me." For a generation searching for peace, there is no better place to begin.”
