How to Make a Political Impact Without Becoming an Influencer

Turning Principles Into Impact

‍ ‍

“Whatever you do, it is crucial to go out in the real world, make connections, and join institutions to put yourself in a position to make an impact.”

A growing number of young conservatives are eager to shape the future of American politics. However, many lack a clear understanding of how to contribute effectively, which can lead to feelings of powerlessness and insignificance. As a result, this newfound energy is often misdirected into endless posting and commenting on social media.

While sharing political views online with friends and family is valuable, it is not the most effective or impactful way to participate in the political process.

Here are a couple of ways to get involved politically, without becoming an influencer.

Vote

This may seem obvious, but exercising the right to vote protected by the Constitution is the most important and effective way to make a direct impact. It is also the most overlooked.

It is our leaders’ job to represent and listen to their constituents, and the best way to communicate opinions about their performance is not through aggressive comments on social media, but through the electoral process.

While Gen Z voter turnout is improving, there is still significant room for growth. According to research from CIRCLE at Tufts University, it is estimated that only 47% of young people ages 18 to 29 voted in the 2024 presidential election, which is nearly ten points lower than the next age range.

If youth voter turnout rises by even a few percentage points, the Gen Z vote could play a pivotal role in elections across the country, especially in state and local races.

Midterm season is underway, and it is a critical one. Conservatives are fighting to retain the majority in both the House and the Senate. Redistricting battles are occurring across the nation. It is vital to elect strong, Christian conservatives at each of the federal, state, and local levels to shape the future of the country.

Primaries are occurring across the states nearly every week. Registering to vote is simple and easy, and a majority of states allow for online voter registration. Many states offer early voting, and every state allows for some form of absentee voting. Traditional in-person voting on Election Day is also still available across the country. Be sure to check your state’s elections website for information on how to become a registered voter and cast your vote.

Voting has never been easier. It is important for Gen Z to participate in the 2026 elections, and voting remains the easiest and most effective way to get involved politically.

Join Institutions

Another way to get involved is to join institutions, groups, or clubs. There are already many powerful institutions that are key to victory in many states. These include local groups that are easy to join and participate in, such as county GOP organizations, Republican Women, Young Republicans, College Republicans, and numerous others.

These institutions drive real change in the political process, essentially acting as the hands and feet of the GOP.

From personal experience, these organizations love when young people show up and participate. Most people involved in these organizations are from older generations, and they are thrilled when young people join and become engaged in politics.

One way to get a step ahead is to present yourself well and make a strong first impression. Dress well, smile, be friendly, look everyone in the eye, and introduce yourself to members. These are simple habits that require zero talent. By accomplishing these things, you will make a lasting first impression and earn the respect of the members.

And if there are no institutions available to join, build your own. Start a local chapter of an organization at your high school or college campus. Recruit your friends and motivate your peers to get involved.

Whatever you do, it is crucial to go out in the real world, make connections, and join institutions to put yourself in a position to make an impact.

This list is not exhaustive. If you have a desire to make a political impact, there are countless opportunities that fit your skills and interests.

Gen Z Christian conservatives are finding out that politics is not dirty or hopeless. You are ready to step into the arena and make an impact. Instead of pouring energy into online endeavors, young conservatives should focus on building real influence through voting and active participation in political institutions.
